Anniversary Renovation ~ The Nightmare Continues

Posted by Magnolia Plantation under: News.

On May 3, 1991 The Magnolia Plantation Bed and Breakfast opened its doors with Joe and I firmly entrenched on the 3rd floor. It’s a beautiful area, with wood floors, brick fireplaces and if the walls could talk they’d say “No one has painted me since 1991.” So we decided it was time to spruce it up a little bit. As we made our monthly pilgrimage to Georgia, our painter got started upstairs. Before long he called to say carpenter ants had taken up residence in our bathroom. So in comes the pest control man to take care of that problem. Then the painter called again because he had discovered a small leak near that beautiful brick fireplace. So here comes the roofer. He fixed what he could but told us that years of that “delightful” Florida weather had done it’s damage and the chimney bricks need to be repointed. Which means now we get to welcome a brick mason to our bed and breakfast. This is beginning to sound like that old children’s story “The Lady with the Alligator Purse.” And of course a month later the walls are still not painted. On top of all of that, Joe concluded now would be the ideal time to refinish the floors.

So far we’ve been slow enough that we could stay in a guest room. However with graduation upon us our inn is booked (a good problem) and Joe and I have nowhere to sleep (a bad problem). Our wonderful neighbors at the Laurel Oak Inn offered their spare room but graduation is enough stress as it is, without adding a couple of misplaced un-paying innkeepers to their plates. Therefore if you need Joe and I we can be found in the Summer Kitchen. We’re blowing up some AERO beds and going camping. It gives a whole new meaning to the saying “If you want breakfast in bed, sleep in the kitchen.”

Vacation Rentals @ $99.00 a night!

Posted by Magnolia Plantation under: Magnolia Plantation B&B Specials.

Since July is our slowest month, Joe and I decided to just shut the Inn down for the month and take a trip.  My housekeeper, Kim heard us talking and said “I’ll have to find another job”.  Well, I would rather chew off my right arm before I lost Kim to another job.  So, back to the drawing board.  I was inspired by VRBO web site where we have our house in Georgia listed.  Vacation Rentals are basic home rentals.  You pick up your key and then you are on your own.  We decided that our cottages would be perfect for the Vacation Rental Market.  And so, the birth of the next phase of our lives began.  Our Vacation Rentals are a bit different.  After you pick up your key, Kim will come by every day to see if you need anything.  We offer housekeeping every 3-4 days if requested.  Check our web site or sign up for our newletter if you want to be notified of any upcoming Vacation Rentals.  We try to offer these specials 6-10 days every month with the next one beginnging on February 27th and ending on March 9th.  You can make your reservation by going to our web site and clicking on the “make a reservation” button at the top right of the home page.  These Vacation Rentals are $99.00 a night based on double occupancy and require a 3 night minimum.  Remember, our cottages are pet friendly but make sure you read our pet rules on our web site.
