Come take a walk through the Historic Duck Pond District neighborhood and tour a few personal homes! Stay at Magnolia Plantation and walk just a few blocks to the Thomas Center for the Spring Promenade Tour of Homes. There are seven beautifully restored historic homes on the tour. While walking along the streets of the Duck Pond neighborhood you will have a chance to imagine what the streets of Gainesville were like back in the early 1900’s. You will also learn the history of the homes and the owners. If you missed the Holiday Homes Tour in December, this is your chance to see a personal side of Gainesville.
There are two tours:
Candlelight Tour Friday, March 5th at 6pm ($15)
Daylight Tour Saturday, March 6th from 10-4 ($10)
Please contact us if you would like to make reservations or if you need more information. Please check out this link for more information on the tour:

20th Annual Spring Garden Festival: March 20 (9am-6pm) & 21 (10am-5pm), 2010
Every spring, Kanapaha hosts its Annual Spring Garden Festival, the region’s premier horticultural event. The weekend affair features more than 200 booths offering plants, landscape displays, educational materials, arts and crafts, and food. Educational seminars and entertainment are offered throughout and both live and silent auctions offer many bargains on arts, crafts, plants, and gardening supplies. About 10,000 individuals usually attend the event; parking is free and two off-site parking areas are serviced by shuttle buses. Pets are not allowed at these festivals.

The Magnolia Plantation’s house, which is historically known as The Barid Mansion is turning 125 years old this year. Along with this milestone, Joe and Cindy, the owners will be celebrating their 20th year as innkeepers. Both of these anniversaries are unique. The house survived 30 years of parties and it truly is remarkable that it is still standing. Joe and Cindy have run their inn longer than any other innkeepers in the state of Florida and again, it is remarkable that they are still standing. When you have made it as long as the house and the innkeepers, you deserve a really big party. We will begin in May 2010 with a year long celebration. We hope you can join us at one of our monthly celebration parties. More information will be provided as we progress into the year.

Just a 5 minute walk from the Inn is the best party in town. Wine tasting earlier in the evening then take a walk downtown to dinner. After dinner, stroll over to the Bo Diddley Plaza and enjoy live music to celebrate the New Year. After you have brought in the New Year, walk, or if you can’t walk, you can have a horse drawn carriage carry you back to The Magnolia Plantation Bed & Breakfast Inn. When you arrive at the Inn, there will be a bottle of bubbly, water and asprin awaiting your arrival.
